The iconic Durant’s steakhouse in Phoenix is preparing for a grand return this December after several months of renovations, which have included extensive kitchen upgrades and behind-the-scenes improvements. Located on Central Avenue, the restaurant is approaching its 75th anniversary and remains a cherished fixture of the city’s dining scene. In anticipation of the reopening, Durant’s is hiring approximately 135 staff members across various roles. While the updates aim to modernize operations, the ownership group has emphasized that the vintage ambiance and character will remain fully intact, preserving the charm that has made Durant’s a local institution for generations.

PHOENIX — After being closed for nearly five months due to a sale and renovation, iconic central Phoenix steakhouse Durant’s is close to reopening.

But first, they need to hire more than 100 staff members.

The steakhouse, which is located just south of Central Avenue and Thomas Road, closed in February after being sold to Mike and Jeff Mastro, their father, Dennis, and their business partner, Scott Trolio.

This group also operates several well-known Valley restaurants, including Steak 44, Ocean 44 and Dominick’s Steakhouse.

Durant’s, which is nearing its 75th anniversary, has been closed while undergoing renovations, which include kitchen upgrades. The ownership group said that the vintage look and feel of the restaurant’s dining room will be preserved.

The reopening date for the restaurant is currently scheduled for Dec. 10, according to Jennifer Sturgeon, the Vice President of Public Relations for J. Moser and Company.
