Expanding Aerospace, Defense, Space Markets

Chandler-based Microchip Technology Incorporated announced its acquisition of VORAGO Technologies, Inc. The Austin, Texas-based company specializes in radiation-hardened and radiation-tolerant microcontrollers (MCUs) and microprocessors (MPUs). These technologies support electronic systems that operate in harsh environments. Microchip did not disclose the purchase price but expects the acquisition to have little impact on its overall financial results.

The acquisition will help Microchip expand its share of the aerospace, defense and space markets. These industries continue to attract growing investment and demand from military and commercial space programs. The deal also strengthens Microchip’s technical expertise by adding a team of radiation-hardening specialists. Microchip can apply their knowledge and experience across its broader operations.

Microchip Technology Incorporated, a broadline supplier of semiconductors committed to making innovative design easier through total system solutions, today announced that it has acquired VORAGO Technologies, Inc., a privately held provider of radiation-hardened and radiation-tolerant microcontrollers (MCUs) and microprocessors (MPUs), based in Austin, Texas. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed, and the acquisition is not expected to be material to Microchip’s consolidated financial results.

“From terrestrial defense systems to satellite and space-based platforms, our aerospace and defense customers are designing systems that must operate reliably in increasingly harsh and complex environments,” said Steve Sanghi, Microchip’s CEO and President. “The acquisition of VORAGO strengthens our ability to support development in these demanding markets and reinforces our commitment to investing in technologies that align with our long-term growth strategy.”

The acquisition adds a family of radiation-hardened MCUs and MPUs that complement Microchip’s existing aerospace and defense product lines, along with VORAGO’s patented HARDSIL® process technology. HARDSIL helps reduce the design time and cost of developing new rad-hard products and can enhance the radiation tolerance of existing products without a redesign. With this acquisition, Microchip is positioned to capture a larger share of the A&D and space markets, which have seen accelerating investment and demand across both defense and commercial space programs. The transaction also strengthens Microchip’s technical capabilities through the addition of a team with deep radiation-hardening expertise that can be leveraged across the company’s broader business.

VORAGO’s MCUs are designed to keep working where standard electronics fail, tolerating high radiation exposure and extreme heat, which makes them well suited for mission-critical space, defense and industrial applications.

“VORAGO has always been focused on delivering the best radiation-protected semiconductor solutions that customers can depend on when failure is not an option. Joining Microchip gives us the opportunity to build on that foundation with greater scale, broader capabilities and the resources to serve a rapidly growing space market. I’m proud of what our team has built, and excited for how this acquisition can empower our customers to execute missions faster and with very high confidence,” said Bernd Lienhard, Chief Executive Officer of VORAGO Technologies.

According to @azcommerce, a delegation of more than 30 Arizona legislative, business and economic development leaders completed a four-day trade mission to Ireland. The visit focused on expanding partnerships in high-tech industries, research, innovation and workforce development. Arizona and Ireland share strengths in semiconductors, medical technology, artificial intelligence, quantum technology, pharmaceuticals and clean energy. Trade between Arizona and Ireland exceeded $850 million in 2025.

The delegation met with officials from the U.S. Embassy in Dublin, Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs and IDA Ireland. Members also visited Dublin City University and Trinity College Dublin to discuss research and workforce partnerships. At Intel Ireland, the group toured a campus that employs nearly 5,000 people and includes Fab 34, Europe’s first high-volume semiconductor facility to use Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) lithography. Intel’s Fab 52 in Chandler also uses EUV technology and will manufacture Intel 18A chips, highlighting the semiconductor connections between Arizona and Ireland.

Additional visits included the Guinness Enterprise Centre, Enterprise Ireland and a roundtable hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce Ireland. The delegation also visited the Irish Parliament in Dublin, where lawmakers formally recognized the Arizona group during a parliamentary session. #ireland #irishdelegation #trademission #silicondesert #metrophx

Tempe-based Dutch Bros Coffee plans to acquire 51 former Salad and Go locations after the fast-casual chain filed for bankruptcy, with the ongoing cyclosporiasis outbreak contributing to its collapse. Salad and Go filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Monday and announced it will permanently close all of its locations, serving its final meals Wednesday. The Gilbert-founded drive-thru restaurant chain submitted voluntary bankruptcy petitions in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas in Houston.

The company said declining consumer demand, rapid expansion challenges, and rising operating costs made its business unsustainable. Salad and Go also said the Cyclospora foodborne illness outbreak in July hurt sales, even though health officials did not link the chain to the contamination. #saladandgo #gilbertaz #cyclospora #bankruptcy #chapter11
