Intended Deployment on Over 100 Aircraft

Honeywell Aerospace announced that Aeromexico plans to deploy its latest Surface Alerts (SURF-A) runway safety technology across its entire Boeing 737 NG and 737 MAX fleet. The rollout will equip more than 100 aircraft with Honeywell’s most advanced runway safety system.

Honeywell Aerospace Global Headquarters is located near Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix.

Honeywell Aerospace today announced that Aeromexico intends to adopt its newest and most advanced runway safety technology, known as Surface Alerts (SURF-A), across the carrier’s entire Boeing 737 NG and 737 MAX fleet of more than 100 aircraft.

SURF-A sends pilots real-time aural and visual alerts when they are on a trajectory to collide with another aircraft on the runway. It uses GPS data, automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) equipment and advanced software analytics to pinpoint the exact location of traffic hazards and provide warnings at approximately 30 and 15 seconds before impact. Pilots hear the alert and also see a “Traffic on runway” alert on cockpit displays if on a potential collision course.

“Safety is one of the core tenets of Honeywell Aerospace, and we designed this technology to help give pilots the precious time they need to recognize hazards and take corrective action to avoid what could be a fatal accident,” said Jim Currier, president and CEO of Honeywell Aerospace. “We commend Aeromexico for its intention to become an early adopter of this accident-prevention technology at a time when airports are busier than ever.”

FAA certification of SURF-A on several Boeing aircraft is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026 and continue into 2027.

SURF-A joins Honeywell Aerospace’s longstanding portfolio of FAA-certified runway safety products including the Runway Awareness and Advisory System (RAAS) and SmartRunway and SmartLanding software. Those technologies are installed on more than 6,000 commercial aircraft globally, or roughly one quarter of the world’s fleet. Southwest Airlines installed SmartRunway and SmartLanding across its entire fleet of more than 700 aircraft last year.

SURF-A is expected to provide Aeromexico pilots with a “third set of eyes” in the cockpit to boost situational awareness during taxi, take off and landing.

“Safety has always guided Aeromexico’s investment decisions,” said Santiago Diago, chief operations officer of Aeromexico. “We are excited about the opportunity to work with Honeywell Aerospace and intend to become the launch customer for SURF-A, reflecting our continued commitment to adopting innovative technologies that can further strengthen flight safety.”

SURF-A is available as a software upgrade to Honeywell Aerospace’s Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS) and Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) already aboard Aeromexico’s fleet of 737s.

@honeywell_aero announced plans to invest $500 million in a new 300,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Tempe. The expansion will help the company meet growing demand from commercial aviation and defense customers. The advanced facility will feature robotics, automated inspections, digital production systems, and digital twin technology. These capabilities will improve manufacturing efficiency and support next-generation aerospace technologies.

Located near the Honeywell Aerospace global headquarters in Phoenix, the facility will expand precision machining capabilities and strengthen supply chains. It will also increase production of advanced systems, including Assure actuation systems and Attune cooling subsystems. The expansion will support existing customer programs, $15 billion in new Control Systems program awards, and critical defense technologies.

Honeywell Aerospace expects to open the facility in late 2028. The investment will eventually create approximately 600 permanent jobs and expand the company’s skilled workforce. Additionally, construction will support more than 1,000 local jobs, providing a significant economic boost to @tempegov. #honeywellaerospace #tempeaz #advancedmanufacturing #silicondesert #metrophx #metrophoenix

According to @azcommerce, a delegation of more than 30 Arizona legislative, business and economic development leaders completed a four-day trade mission to Ireland. The visit focused on expanding partnerships in high-tech industries, research, innovation and workforce development. Arizona and Ireland share strengths in semiconductors, medical technology, artificial intelligence, quantum technology, pharmaceuticals and clean energy. Trade between Arizona and Ireland exceeded $850 million in 2025.

The delegation met with officials from the U.S. Embassy in Dublin, Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs and IDA Ireland. Members also visited Dublin City University and Trinity College Dublin to discuss research and workforce partnerships. At Intel Ireland, the group toured a campus that employs nearly 5,000 people and includes Fab 34, Europe’s first high-volume semiconductor facility to use Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) lithography. Intel’s Fab 52 in Chandler also uses EUV technology and will manufacture Intel 18A chips, highlighting the semiconductor connections between Arizona and Ireland.

Additional visits included the Guinness Enterprise Centre, Enterprise Ireland and a roundtable hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce Ireland. The delegation also visited the Irish Parliament in Dublin, where lawmakers formally recognized the Arizona group during a parliamentary session. #ireland #irishdelegation #trademission #silicondesert #metrophx
