Rising as a Hub for Film Production

A recent study reveals that film production in Metro Phoenix contributed an impressive $29.1 million to the local economy in 2024. This marks significant growth compared to the $18.1 million generated in 2023. For accuracy in numbers, the City of Phoenix publishes an annual Economic Impact Report, which provides a comprehensive analysis of the financial effects of every aspect of film production.

PHOENIX — According to a recent study, film production in metro Phoenix generated $29.1 million in economic impact in 2024.

That figure is a substantial increase from the $18.1 million metro Phoenix saw in 2023.

The city of Phoenix releases an annual Economic Impact Report that takes into consideration every part of film production.

The greater Phoenix area saw a total of 777 projects in 2024, according to the study, which includes feature films, television shows, social media projects, commercials, documentaries and still photography.

The 777 projects took a combined 1,138 shoot days to complete. Of those projects, 3,092 crew members worked on set with 1,800 actors. As a result of the projects, 4,727 hotels in the area were booked.

“Phoenix is proud to rise as a hub for film production, and this year’s impressive $29.1 million economic impact demonstrates how important the industry is to our local economy, from creating job opportunities for our local skilled crew and talent to supporting our local film vendors and small businesses,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said in a press release.

“This milestone shows that our continued commitment to attracting this creative industry to Phoenix is a win-win for the city and artists alike.”

The Phoenix Film Office has worked to bring big-name projects to the area because of the financial implications.

“We are proud to see such a substantial economic impact from the film industry in Phoenix,” Film Office Commissioner Phil Bradstock said in the release. “This report reflects the city’s commitment to providing a welcoming environment for filmmakers and supporting their creative endeavors.”

The Phoenix Film Office provides location assistance, information regarding technical crews, talent, hotel accommodations, film permitting and coordinate filming at city owned locations.
