Waymo, the world’s largest fully autonomous ride-hailing service, is adding 55 square miles to its Metro Phoenix service area. The expansion increases coverage to more than 350 square miles. Riders can now request Waymo rides in more East Valley communities, including Gilbert and Chandler. Mesa Gateway Airport will soon join Phoenix Sky Harbor and Scottsdale Airpark as destinations as well. The expanded territory also brings service closer to Waymo’s Mesa facility. Vehicles can now drive themselves from the facility and begin picking up passengers within minutes.

The expansion also brings Waymo back to the East Valley, where it welcomed its first riders and completed its first trips in 2020. Since then, Waymo has expanded its infrastructure, technology and service while maintaining a focus on safety.
