Novus Innovation Corridor plans to add an upscale hotel to its mixed-use district on ASU’s Tempe campus. The seven-story hotel will span 116,855 square feet near University Drive and Rural Road. The Marriott Bonvoy Tribute Portfolio property will feature 168 guest rooms, a rooftop pool and bar, and 2,700 square feet of meeting space. Its design will combine modern finishes with elements inspired by ASU’s campus. Okland Construction will oversee planning, design and construction management. The hotel will help establish Novus as a destination for residents, visitors, businesses and sports fans. ASU is also investing more than $150 million in athletic facilities at Novus. Projects include a $55 million indoor football practice facility and $100 million in upgrades to Desert Financial Arena. Novus is one of ASU’s 10 Innovation Zones, which connect research, talent and businesses with new economic opportunities.

Novus Innovation Corridor, a multi-phase mixed-use development that is integrated with Arizona State University’s Tempe campus, is adding an upscale hotel to its main street entertainment district.

The hotel will be seven stories and 116,855 square feet located off University Drive and Rural Road. It is part of Marriott Bonvoy’s Tribute Portfolio and will feature 168 guest rooms, a rooftop pool and bar as well as a 2,700-square-foot meeting space.

The exterior of the hotel will be a combination of contrasting finishes and textures, but still include hints of the ASU’s campus identity.

“The hotel is the next step in realizing our vision of making Novus a destination for residents, visitors and sports fans on game days,” Dr. Morgan Olsen, executive vice president, treasurer and chief financial officer of ASU, said in a news release. “Prospective students, their families, companies partnered with ASU and locations in Novus and the ASU community all will benefit from the hotel’s amenities and its location on the ASU Tempe campus.”

Okland Construction will be in charge of the hotel’s planning, design and construction management. Other projects the company has worked on include The Global Ambassador Hotel, Mortgage Matchup Center, the Phoenix Police Department Headquarters and the global headquarters of ASU’s Thunderbird School of Global Management.

“ASU continues to lead in every way,” Okland Construction CEO Bill Okland said. “We are grateful to partner with the university and Banbury Development to take Novus to an even higher level.”

One of the defining aspects of Novus is it being a collegiate sports destination. ASU is investing more than $150 million in sports venues at the mixed-use development, which includes a $55-million indoor football practice facility and $100 million to modernize Desert Financial Arena.

Novus is one of 10 Innovation Zones that ASU has that are meant to connect ideas to industry, talent to opportunity and research to impact.
