GOODYEAR – Abrazo West completes construction on its new high-tech hybrid operating room (OR), a nearly $7 million investment that combines the sterile environment of a traditional OR with the advanced capabilities of a cardiac catheterization lab. It allows surgeons to perform complex, minimally invasive cardiovascular and vascular surgeries and electrophysiology procedures in a single space. Patient procedures in the new OR will begin in August.

“By giving us the option to provide both minimally invasive and traditional, open treatment options in a single space, the hybrid OR will enable us to tailor our treatment plans for patients who may not otherwise have successful outcomes,” said Stacey Hancock, DO, a board-certified vascular surgeon with Abrazo West.

One of the key features of the hybrid OR is a ceiling-mounted imaging system known as the Azurion 7 M20 with FlexArm, made by Philips Healthcare.

Its C-arm rotates on eight axes, enabling medical teams to perform imaging on patients from head to toe, on the left and right side, with both 2-D and 3-D visualizations.

“The new hybrid OR is yet another example of how we are meeting our commitment to invest in quality, high acuity care that West Valley residents can access where they live, without having to travel out of the area for these kinds of complex surgical procedures,” said Hans Driessnack, Abrazo West Campus CEO.

Goodyear Mayor Joe Pizzillo attended a ribbon cutting ceremony July 30 at Abrazo West to mark the end of construction on the hybrid OR.
